Conditions

Which conditions might benefit from HMV?

These are conditions that damage the lungs which include:

• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Cystic Fibrosis (CF)

Or conditions that restrict the movement of air in and out of the body such as:

• Kyphoscoliosis
• Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
• Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD)
• Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome (OHS)

Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) in combination with an additional condition, may have an HMV device programmed to treat both conditions. 

In addition, some patients may need HMV following a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI).
