Meet the Team – Chris Stevenson

Chris Stevenson, Patient Representative of Home Mechanical Ventilation in Partnership (HMViP)

I was a General Practitioner Principal for thirty years before retiring in 2014. I was also a GP Trainer during this time. This basically means I don’t have any significant expertise in HMV but have a wide range of experience which I hope helps all in some way.

What is your interest in HMV?
I have been a grateful recipient of HMV since 2014.

When did you join the HMViP?
I joined the group in 2020

What do you personally hope to see the group achieve?
I would like to see HMV sensibly explained and to manage expectations in order to increase potential and current user understanding of this treatment option. Involving the user and carer team in this conversation with all the caring professionals is very important.




What is Home Mechanical Ventilation?
We have developed a patient leaflet which can be accessed here and printed off by clinicians, patients, family members or carers. It provides information about HMV, what it is and who might benefit from it, and details resources to provide additional support.

HMViP (Home Mechanical Ventilation in Partnership) is a holistic collaboration of health care professionals working within the field of home mechanical ventilation (HMV). It benefits from representation from service users including patients and carers.

This website is dedicated to the memory of Ronnie Ward whose HMV treatment allowed him to spend the final four years of his life at home with his family.

This website has been developed using the expertise and experience of the healthcare professionals, patients and carers who make up the HMViP Group and was funded from a grant provided by ResMed UK Limited.
