Meet the Team – Patrick Murphy

Patrick Murphy, Founding Member of the Home Mechanical Ventilation in Partnership (HMViP)

Consultant, Lane Fox, Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital

Can you introduce yourself?
I’m a consultant respiratory physician who specialises in the care of patients who need home ventilation. I am also the clinical lead for the Lane Fox Respiratory service, one of the largest home ventilation services in the UK and Europe.

I’m also a reader in Respiratory Medicine, King’s College London

What is your interest in HMV?
I am committed to delivering the best clinical care for patients needing home ventilation and am actively involved in clinical trials to ensure patients are able to receive the best possible care as early as possible. I work with patients with all causes of respiratory failure who require home ventilation including those requiring the highest level of support (tracheostomy ventilation).

When did you join the HMViP?
I’m one of the founding member of the group and my involvement predates the set-up of the group in 2019.

What do you personally hope to see the group achieve?
I hope the group can ensure that patients can access an important, and often life-changing therapy and that they have all of the information they need to ensure they can master all of the skills needed to make the treatment a success.
